Oscar I. Alfonso is an international tax, trust, and estate planning attorney. Oscar is the founder and Managing Shareholder of Oscar I. Alfonso & Associates. Oscar has more than 12 years of experience in a wide range of cross-border transactions, including inbound and outbound tax planning strategies, and in trust and estate planning for domestic and foreign clients, as well as being experienced in general corporate, business, federal, and state taxation. Oscar also represents clients who intend to expatriate from the U.S. by relinquishing their U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status, as well as clients who intend to immigrate to the United States. Oscar has a vast experience in representing U.S. clients participating in the IRS’s Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program and the Streamlined Filing Compliance Procedures. Oscar also advises foreign clients on federal withholding tax obligations and information reporting requirements, including under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) developed by the OECD. Oscar drafts estate tax planning documents including trusts, wills, and ancillary documents for U.S. residents and non-U.S. residents.

Oscar is native to San Juan, Puerto Rico. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Dayton in Ohio. Upon graduation, Oscar worked as a Certified Public Accountant at Cardona & Irizarry Group, at the time, one of the top three local certified public accounting firms in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After moving to Miami, Oscar pursued a Masters in Taxation from the Florida International University. Upon graduation, Oscar was admitted to Nova Southeastern University, School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor. While attending law school, Oscar interned with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, where he assisted in a variety of civil tax controversy cases. Oscar completed his L.L.M. degree in Taxation with an International Tax Law Certificate at the University of Miami.

Prior to founding Oscar I. Alfonso & Associates, Oscar worked for Packman, Neuwahl & Rosenberg, P.A., where he represented and advised U.S. and non-U.S. corporate and individual clients with the structuring, planning, maintenance, compliance, and reorganization of their investments and business activities in and outside of the United States. Oscar also regularly represented individuals and families with their international and domestic estate planning matters.

Adria M. Rodriguez

Adria M. Rodriguez is an international attorney with parallel law degrees in the civil code and common law systems. Adria focuses primarily on taxation, with special emphasis on international taxation. Adria assists international private wealth clients and cross‐border families with offshore income tax and estate planning, expatriation, pre-immigration tax planning, structuring investments in the United States, among many other issues that relate to private client work. Adria also assists U.S. and foreign business entities in cross-border transactions, investments of U.S. entities abroad, investments of foreign entities in the United States, and establishment of operations in the United States and abroad. Adria also advises clients with regard to international tax reporting and compliance issues, including Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) for both individuals and companies and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) developed by the OECD. Being fluent in English and Spanish, and possessing an intimate knowledge of Latin American systems, rules, and culture, she regularly works with foreign outside counsel in serving clients on multijurisdictional projects.

Adria is a native of Cuba and has an in-depth understanding of the business culture in the U.S. and Latin America. Adria received formal education in both common law and civil law legal systems and graduated from the University of Miami, School of Law, and the Faculty of Law of the University of Havana, with honors. Adria earned a Post-Doctoral Master of Laws in Taxation with concentration on international tax also from the University of Miami, School of Law. While completing her L.L.M. in Taxation, Adria interned with the IRS’s Office of the Chief Counsel, where she assisted in a variety of civil tax cases.

Prior to joining Oscar I. Alfonso & Associates, Adria was an attorney at the international law firm Rivero Mestre, where her practice focused primarily on complex commercial litigation, including international litigation and arbitration, and white collar criminal defense.

Prior to moving to the United States, Adria practiced law in Cuba, which provided her with extensive knowledge of the Cuban legal system, especially in the areas of foreign investment, regulatory compliance, and commercial litigation.

Raiza M. Reyes

Raiza M. Reyes is an attorney with parallel law degrees in both common law and civil law systems. Raiza focuses her practice on probate, guardianship, and trust administration, and estate planning for domestic and international clients. Raiza has more than six years of experience in representing fiduciaries and interested persons in probate and guardianship proceedings. Raiza is one of a few attorneys in Miami-Dade County that represents Cuban heirs in probate matters. Raiza also assists individuals and families with their international and domestic estate planning needs, and advises U.S. and non-U.S. corporate and individual clients with the structuring, planning, maintenance, and reorganization of their investments and business activities in and outside of the United States.

Raiza is a native of Cuba. She graduated with honors from the University of Havana School of Law. After arriving in the United States, she attended St. Thomas University School of Law, where she graduated cum laude.

Prior to joining Oscar I. Alfonso & Associates, P.A., Raiza worked as an associate attorney at David Howard Goldberg, P.L., where she handled cases involving probate, guardianship, and trust administration and litigation. Previously, Raiza worked as a volunteer attorney at the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida, Probate Division.

Before moving to the United States, Raiza practiced law in Cuba for several years, which provided her with an in-depth understanding of the Cuban legal system. Her background and legal education provide Raiza with the ability to assist clients on transactions involving different legal systems and cultures.
